Nagaland RTO Code 2024: In 1963, Nagaland took a significant step by founding its own Motor Vehicles Department, adhering to the stipulations of section 133-A of the M.V. Act, 1933 (which is also referred to as section 213 of the M.V. Act, 1988). This department functions in accordance with the regulations established in the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 (previously known as the M.V. Act, 1933), along with the Central Motor Vehicles Rules from 1989, the Nagaland Motor Vehicles Act of 1967, and the Motor Vehicles Taxation Rules introduced in 1972. Its main duties encompass the registration and licensing of vehicles, the collection of road taxes and passenger/goods taxes, and the issuance of driving licenses.

To effectively manage these responsibilities, the State has set up eight Registering and Licensing Offices across different areas. These offices can be found in Kohima and Mokokchung, along with locations in Mon, Tuensang, Wokha, Dimapur, Phek, and Zunheboto. To ensure compliance with the MV Acts and Rules, the department has also established an Enforcement wing.

This enforcement team consists of Senior Enforcement Inspectors, Enforcement Inspectors, Assistant Enforcement Inspectors, and Motor Vehicle Checkers stationed at the Regional Transport Offices in Kohima and Mokokchung, as well as at the District Transport Office in Dimapur.
