Sikkim RTO Code 2024: The Motor Vehicles Division serves as an essential part of the Transport Department, functioning under the respected Government of Sikkim. Its main role is to diligently enforce and execute a variety of laws linked to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, the Central Motor Vehicles Rules of 1989, the Sikkim Motor Vehicle Rules of 1991, and the Sikkim Motor Vehicles (Taxation) Act of 1982.
Moreover, this division is tasked with ensuring adherence to regulations regarding vehicle registration, the issuance of driving licenses and permits, as well as the collection of vehicle taxes. This crucial duty has been assigned to the Motor Vehicles Division as per Notification No 22/Home/2004, dated 3/3/2004, in accordance with the Government of Sikkim’s (Allocation of Business) Rules. It is important to highlight that all motor vehicles are required to be registered with the appropriate Registering Authority, which is determined by where the owner resides or where the vehicle is usually kept.
To enhance public convenience, the Sikkim State Transport Department has set up 8 Regional Transport Office (RTO) branches that provide a wide array of vehicle-related services.
